Modified on Fri, 19 Jun at 12:10 PM

Available 12v Power Sources

  • Rechargeable Battery Pack
  • Plug-in transformer
  • Multi-motor (direct wired) power supply (select Vendors)

Size Recommendations for Power Sources

The manufacturer's power source recommendation for best performance is based on motor type, shade size, and fabric type. Please contact a retailer for up-to-date power size charts based on motor type.

For best performance, orders of 10 or more shades are recommended to use plug-in transformers. The multi-motor power supply kit is available for all shade and job sizes.

Additionally, consider how often the shade will be operated. If you plan to raise and lower your shade(s) more than once per day, we recommend a plug-in transformer or a multi-motor power supply for best performance.

Battery Considerations

When planning on using the rechargeable battery packs, think about the physical location and effort required to charge the shades batteries. For hard-to-reach windows, consider using an extension cable (see Vendor to order) attached to the battery case to allow easier access to the battery case(s).

Please be aware that battery life will vary based on size and usage. Larger shade sizes or shades that are used more frequently will need to be charged more often than smaller or unused shades.

Plug-In Transformer Considerations

We recommend a plug-in transformer for shades bigger than 7,200 square inches (46,451.5 cm²) or for those hard-to-reach windows. An outlet must be within 14 feet of the shade motor for the transformer to reach. (Note: an additional 4' or 8' extension cord is available for purchase.)

Multi-Motor (Direct-Wired) Power Supply

Available for all sizes, this is an ideal solution for new construction or home remodel as the wires are hidden from view, and there are no batteries to change. A licensed electrician is required for installation.

Plug-In Transformer Considerations

The plug-in transformer comes with a 5’ power cord. Addition length, not provided by SWF, may be spliced on to the power cord.
