RTS: My Are My Batteries Draining Too Fast Using A Solar Power Kit?

Modified on Sat, 20 Jun at 1:20 PM

The battery life of your motorized shade(s) is highly dependent on multiple factors:

  • Size of shade and weight of fabric: Larger, heavier shades consume more energy when operated.

  • Frequency of use: The more the shades are operated, the more energy they consume.

  • Charge Time: The solar kit does not charge the batteries in the battery tube but, instead, helps keep them lasting longer than regular AA batteries. Every so often the AA batteries will need to be manually charged in a Nimh battery charger and eventually replaced with new Nimh batteries.

  • Temperature of environment: Excessively hot or cold environments tend to deplete batteries more rapidly.

  • Environmental Interference: While uncommon, other wireless devices, both in and near the home, may keep the motor from going into a “sleep” mode to save battery life.

  • Lack of Sunlight: The solar kit can only function properly when the window has direct, unobstructed, sunlight hitting the solar kit. Windows with tinting, UV blocking additives, triple pane windows, or dividers all will have an impact on how the solar kit functions.

Batteries on a shade of average size and weight, using the recommended batteries, with the shades properly installed, and only operated up and down once per day, should last approximately one (1) year. If your battery performance is significantly shorter after multiple battery charges, please contact customer service.
